Expansion of Research in Health Sector: Challenges and Future Prospects session

A discussion on research in the health sector  was held at a webinar on June 22, 2020, from 7:30 to 08.30 pm. This program was organized by Dr. Wazed Research & Training Institute, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Eminence Associate for Social Development, Bangladesh, and Digital Healthcare Foundation. Dr. Tanvir Abir, Associate Professor, College of Business Administration, IUBT moderated the webinar. 

Professor Dr. Md. Habibe Millat, Member of the Parliament, National Parliament (Sirajganj-2), was the keynote speaker told that the pandemic situation has prevailed all over the world. We are spending 67% of the money from personal and private initiatives in health sectors where the government spending the remaining part. Additionally, the government has started to spend more money in public health sectors since the outbreak of COVID-19. Moreover, we have shown tremendous achievement in agricultural development and research where our public health sectors are lagged regarding research and innovation for common people. BMRC, ICDDR,B, and other organizations are trying to initiate innovation for the betterment of the public health sector with limited resources. The proposed hundred crore does not serve the present crisis about health-related research. The concerned authority should allocate more funds to researching public and clinical health research. The government needs to fix limited office hours of doctors and health practitioners to spend additional time on research and intervention on clinical health including providing need-based training to fight with the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

Madhusudan Mondal, the City Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) informed that print and electronic media are a playing vital role to explore the public and clinical health research findings to mass people to create awareness and for the wellbeing of the people. Mohammad Shamim Talukder, CEO of Eminence Associate for Social Development, Bangladesh, said that we have some achievements in health sectors with utilizing limited funds. ICDRB and some other organizations are playing an important role to develop interventions study for public and clinical health. He urged the government to focus on public health sectors for the well being of common people and clinical health intervention before disseminating any medicine on the market by mentioning India’s perspective.

Chairman of Digital Health Care Foundation Brigadier General Md. Abdul Hamid, (LPR) welcomed all who have participated in this Webinar and presented vote of thanks to all. He suggested all to move forward with whatever we have to fight with COVID-19 and run action-oriented research on public health. The concerned authority needs to identify present and future need meticulously through action research and  address the present crisis simultaniously. 

Professor Dr. Major Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, BNCCO, Director, Dr. Wazed Research and Training Institute, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, and Vice-Chancellor, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur was present as the Chairman of this webinar. He thanked the respected discussants and clarified that this is our initiative to find out innovations and fruitful thoughts to figure out crisis management of the pandemic situation. He said that there is no alternative way without thinking of innovative idea by using methodological tools for fighting against COVID-19.
